The Managing Director, Mr. G. G Wambugu who is also the founder of the company, has vast experience in the construction industry. He has served in various capacities for the last 33 years. He is a Certified Building Economist by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors – UK. He started his career with the reputable quantity-surveying firm of Barker and Barton in 1976 where he worked until 1979 as a Quantity Surveyor, then joined Mavji construction as a Project Manager until 1985 when he left to start Ongata works Limited.
Mrs. Wambugu attained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and French from the University of Nairobi. After working for Kenya Post and telecommunication Corporation as a Senior Planning Officer, She joined Ongata works – as a Director of Finance and Administration – with the aim of restructuring the growth through accounting controls and resource allocations.
“My aim for Ongata works is to make it an Information Technology propelled company, in order to achieve top efficiency.” Mrs. Wambugu has endeavored to introduce young women into the otherwise male dominated industry and Ongata works can now boast a substantial female workforce in the technical departments. Mrs. Wambugu handles the Property department and development of Ongata works, she also sits on the board on a number of Corporations in Kenya with her Finance and Restructuring expertise.
The Company has a Finance Director Mrs. M.W. Wambugu. There are various departments headed by a General Manager as listed down:
1. Technical Department.
2. Finance and Accounts Department.
3. Administration Department.
4. Workshop and Fleet Department.
5. Procurement Department.
Currently Ongata Works Ltd has a work force of over 100 people in the various departments.
